Once again $afepro acknowledges appreciation to Jim Sharpe. This "best-informed" projection appears in Sharpe's Point, Aug. 2009 issue.

PREDICTING JOE MAIN'S AGENDA

If past is prologue, Joe Main will focus as head of MSHA on health issues and will press hard to minimize black lung disease by lowering the exposure limit for respirable coal mine dust. Here are some other prognostications from Sharpe's Point:

  • ·       Continue the 100% enforcement initiative

  • ·       Speed up introduction of a real-time sampling instrument to monitor for respirable coal dust and silica

  •     Step  up health sampling
  • Push for new S-MINER legislation ( See the "6 more S Miners Act Provisions" on the Homepage.
  •     Kill the substance abuse proposal.
